Juvenile Sanderling (Calidris alba)

Michigan City Sanderling

There were at least four juvie Sanderlings at Marquette beach. I walked with this guy along the beach while he fed.

Willet (Catoptrophorus semipalmatus)

Three days after seeing my first Indiana Willet, I saw three more on Marquette Beach in Gary, on the opposite side of the state.

Piping Plover (Charadrius melodus)

A winter plumage Piping Plover on Marquette Beach, Gary, IN. He was not too shy.

Sanderling (Calidris alba)

Not a great picture of the Sanderling, but he stood out in the crowd of peeps.

Semipalmated Sandpiper (Calidris pusilla)

A Semipalmated Sandpiper between two Least Sandpipers. I didn't even realize that there were Semipalmated Sandpipers and Semipalmated Plovers until a couple years ago.

Least Sandpiper (Calidris minutilla)

Lesser Yellowlegs (Tringa flavipes)

Black Vulture (Coragyps atratus)

I saw a Black Vulture on Tuesday in southern Indiana. Their shape and size is pretty different than the very common Turkey Vulture. Also, the white primaries are helpful.

Snowy Owl (Nyctea scandiaca)

Back in August of 2004 a Snowy Owl showed up in northern Indiana. Quite strange. He spent a couple days hanging out by an exit off I-65.
